New Hampshire power rankings
You knew Denny Hamlin was due, right?
Finally, after a gutsy, crazy, totally risky call by crew chief Mike Ford, the No. 11 got back to Victory Lane after a drought of 32 races on Sunday. Hamlin took only two tires to claim the lead with 45 laps left and this time, he didn't give it up, even with Jeff Gordon bearing down on his bumper.
But will Gordon still hold the No. 1 spot in our rankings? Read on to find out.
Here are the latest power rankings after the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire:
1. Jeff Gordon: Hasn't had a bad finish seemingly all year. Won't move off the spot until he does.
2. Denny Hamlin: Victory monkey finally off his back.
3. Jimmie Johnson: Came back with a top-5 after fiasco at Sonoma.
4. Matt Kenseth: Mr. Consistency gets back on track with another top-10 showing.
5. Tony Stewart: Finished 12th, but Pepsi 400 at Daytona is coming and he's the two-time defending champ.
6. Martin Truex, Jr.: Still on serious roll: Win at Dover, four top-5s in last five races.
7. Carl Edwards: Bad break with jack on pit road wrecked potential good finish.
8. Clint Bowyer: Fell two spots in points after 37th-place New Hampshire run.
9. Jeff Burton: Had top-10 run, lost spot in points.
10. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.: Finished fourth behind Truex, Jr.
11. Kevin Harvick: Returning to scene of biggest career win next week.
12. Kyle Busch: New Hampshire car nailed for post-race height violation.
Pepsi 400 at Daytona track fact: Not only is Tony Stewart the two-time defending champ in the Pepsi 400, he set a record when he won in 2005. Stewart led for 151 of 160 laps, the most in a 400-mile race.
If Stewart pulls off the win on Saturday, he would join Jimmie Johnson (Las Vegas) and Greg Biffle (Homestead) as drivers with three straight wins at a particular track.
