There's a great event at Vernon Worthen Park today as our sister newspaper, El Sol, hosts a fiesta. Good food, good music, good art and a chance for the community to connect. The Council on Illegal Immigration ought to drop by to try to get to know some of its new neighbors. Maybe then they'll realize we are all very much the same, despite our language or skin color...

Why is it that mainstream media is pushing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as the next great thing? Simple, in our corporate world, based solely on money and not soul, they are the largest fundraisers in the Democratic Party. I am less likely to vote for the candidate who raised the most money simply because I don't want somebody in office who carries that much political debt. Raising money is great if you work for a non-profit organization. Raising money is something else entirely if you are a political candidate. Does money turn the wheel? You bet. Does money provide the kind of representation in politics that we all desire? No way...

Mega-congrats to the Washington County Search and Rescue Team for its heroic efforts to bring three men and their two dogs off Pine Valley Mountian the other day. I have some lingering questions about all that. I mean, when the weather started to turn, why didn't these guys turn around and hike out? Also, what about the claim that one of the three men was injured, yet when they came down from the mountian, they all refused medical services? Thank God none of the rescuers were injured...
